Thanksgiving and the official start of the Christmas shopping season will once more engulf Americans in the yearly trinity of travel, turkey, and transactions—lots of them.

Many Americans have a home-cooked Thanksgiving meal with their loved ones.

However, some people might also recall waiting in line on Thanksgiving night to take advantage of Black Friday sales and discounts. This changed in 2020, though, as a number of retailers decided to remain closed in order to stretch out the holiday shopping season and reduce crowding during the epidemic.

Since then, a new custom appears to have emerged, and many stores will stay closed this year. Here are the businesses that will be open and closed on Thursday, November 28 in case you're wondering if you can mail your letter or go to the grocery shop on Turkey Day.

Black Friday is the busiest shopping day of the year and the unofficial start of the Christmas gift-buying season. While most major U.S. businesses are closed on Thanksgiving Day, many will open early the next day.

The majority of Kroger locations will close early on Thanksgiving, though their hours may vary. With modified hours, the majority of the Albertsons Companies' stores—Safeway, Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, ACME, Vons, and Tom Thumb—will remain open.

The hours that Whole Foods is open will change.

Aldi and Trader Joe's will be closed. Costco and Sam's Club, two warehouse retailers, will also be closed on Thursday.

Since Thanksgiving is a government holiday, the post office, federal offices, and courts will be closed. The DMV and libraries, among other government agencies, will also be shut down.

A banking holiday is Thanksgiving. There won't be any trading on the New York Stock Exchange or the Nasdaq. ATMs and internet banking will be accessible even if the majority of bank locations will be closed.

On Thanksgiving Day, there won't be any packages. There will be no US Postal Service. With the exception of UPS Express Critical and FedEx Custom Critical, all UPS and FedEx services will be suspended. There won't be many UPS locations open.
