Zelle is not working for some bank customers

Zelle is not working for users at some banks, which the popular peer-to-peer payment network has blamed on an issue at another company.
Zelle, a digital payment network, was down for hundreds of users across the country Friday morning, according to reports from the website Down Detector.
Users began reporting outages and issues with the digital payment service as early as Friday morning, according to the website. By 9:40 a.m. CT, over 1,000 users had reported problems with the digital payment system.
According to an outage map, Zelle customers reported failures in a variety of cities across the United States, including Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, Washington D.C., New York, Boston, and Tampa.
A Zelle spokesman verified the issue in a statement.
“We are aware that certain Zelle users at some financial institutions are not able to use Zelle at this time," the statement said. "This situation involves an independent third-party that provides services to particular financial institutions. We are working diligently with our partners to resolve this matter as soon as we can. Zelle users may see transactions marked as ‘payment pending’ in the meantime. We will share updates as more information becomes available.”
According to Bank of America representative Matthew Card, certain customers are "experiencing a delay in sending and receiving certain payments."
“This is a vendor-related issue affecting multiple banks. We’re working with the vendor to restore service as quickly as possible,” the BofA spokesperson said.
Every day, Americans use Zelle to rapidly transfer billions of dollars.
Zelle is owned by Early Warning Services (EWS), which is jointly owned by major institutions such as JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo.
