Approximately 381,000 Tacoma midsize pickup trucks in the United States are being recalled by Toyota due to a potential issue where a component may detach from the rear axle, posing an increased risk of a collision.
The recall pertains to specific trucks from the model years 2022 and 2023. Toyota disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that the presence of welding debris on axle ends could lead to the gradual loosening of certain nuts, eventually causing them to disengage. This separation from the axle may impact the vehicle's stability and brake functionality.
The automaker did not disclose whether any accidents or injuries have resulted from this problem.
As part of the recall, dealers will conduct inspections on the rear axles, tightening retaining nuts without any charge to the owners. Any damaged components will be addressed through repair or replacement. Customers will receive notifications by mail in late April, according to the company.
