On Tuesday, lawyers for Elon Musk requested to dismiss his lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, concluding a legal dispute that lasted several months between the co-founders of the AI company.

Musk, one of OpenAI's co-founders in 2015, filed a lawsuit against the company in February. He accused the creator of ChatGPT of straying from its original nonprofit vision by limiting access to its most advanced AI technologies to private clients. Musk's legal action called for a jury trial and demanded that the company, along with Altman and co-founder Greg Brockman, return any profits they had made.

OpenAI dismissed Musk’s allegations as “incoherent” and “frivolous”. In March, the company countered by posting a blog that included some of Musk's early emails, suggesting he was aware of the need for substantial funding to support the AI model development.

The reasons for Musk’s decision to withdraw the lawsuit were not specified in the filing made on Tuesday. A court hearing on OpenAI’s motion to dismiss the case was scheduled for the following Wednesday.

Musk, who has launched his AI enterprise, xAI, last year, managed to raise $6 billion this year from venture capital and sovereign wealth funds to support its growth. Despite his ventures, Musk has consistently voiced concerns over AI, labeling it last year as an “existential threat” to humanity.

Recently, Musk critiqued a new collaboration between OpenAI and Apple in a post on X, threatening to ban Apple devices at his companies should OpenAI’s technology be integrated into iPhones.
