X is suing Media Matters

Elon Musk's social media platform, X, filed a lawsuit against Media Matters for America and one of its employees on Monday in response to an investigative report released by the progressive watchdog group that claimed Nazi propaganda was displayed alongside commercials from large firms on the X app.

The lawsuit's announcement was made concurrently with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's announcement that Media Matters would be the subject of a fraud probe.

In a news statement that Musk also posted on X, Paxton stated, "We are closely examining the issue to ensure that the public has not been deceived by the schemes of radical left-wing organizations who would like nothing more than to limit freedom by reducing participation in the public square."

Andrew Bailey, the attorney general of Missouri, stated on X on Sunday that his team was also investigating the situation. Paxton and Bailey both lean Republican.

The action was filed in federal court in Fort Worth, Texas, and asks the judge to order Media Matters to take down the piece in addition to seeking unspecified damages.

Angelo Carusone, President of Media Matters, stated that the website would stand by itself.

“This is a frivolous lawsuit meant to bully X’s critics into silence. Media Matters stands behind its reporting and looks forward to winning in court,” he said in a statement.
