Ohio law restricting children's access to social media is blocked by a federal judge
A temporary halt has been put in place by a federal judge against an Ohio law aimed at regulating children's access to social media platforms. The judge stated that the law is likely unconstitutional.
The order issued on Monday by District Judge Algenon Marbley reaffirms his previous decision made last month, which temporarily stopped the Ohio law from being enforced. The legislation in Ohio intended to mandate social media platforms to obtain parental consent before allowing children under the age of 16 to create accounts.
This injunction, issued by the US District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, represents an initial success for NetChoice, a technology industry organization that filed a lawsuit to block the law. NetChoice is also involved in legal challenges against similar laws in Arkansas, California, and Utah.
