Google signs a $60 million deal with Reddit to train AI models on its posts

Reddit and Google have entered into an agreement wherein the search engine giant will utilize content from the online discussion platform to enhance its artificial intelligence models and refine services like Google Search.

Announced on Thursday, the deal, estimated at around $60 million, also grants Reddit access to Google's AI models to enhance its internal site search and other functionalities.

This collaboration marks a significant development for Reddit, which heavily depends on volunteer moderators to oversee its extensive range of topic-based discussions. Notably, these moderators have previously expressed discontent with Reddit's decisions, such as staging site-wide blackouts in protest against the platform's plans to charge third-party apps for content access.

Google commended Reddit in a press release, highlighting it as a repository of diverse and genuine human conversations and experiences. The search giant emphasized its goal of facilitating easier access to valuable information from Reddit's platform.
