For breach of contract, Elon Musk is suing OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman

Elon Musk is suing OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, alleging that ChatGPT's charitable goal has been compromised by its $13 billion partnership with Microsoft and its secrecy about its latest generative AI technologies.

Musk, who co-created OpenAI in 2015, founded xAI. According to his Thursday California state court complaint, the corporation and its cooperation with Microsoft breached OpenAI's founding charter, breaching contract. Musk wants a jury trial and the corporation, Altman, and co-founder Greg Brockman to return their profits.

OpenAI was designed to counter what the founders considered was a severe danger from artificial generative intelligence (AGI). The corporation organized a board of overseers to assess its products and released their code.

In 2019, Altman, Brockman, and Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever founded OpenAI LP, a for-profit subsidiary of the firm. OpenAI went from worthless to $90 billion in a few years, and Altman is credited for masterminding that plan and ensuring its success.

Microsoft, which has invested billions in OpenAI and has a strong connection with the business, features 68 times in Musk's suit but is not named a defendant.

Much of the lawsuit criticizes Microsoft's influence over OpenAI and economic standing. Microsoft was accused of taking content from Musk's social media firm X to train its AI systems. Musk has promised to sue.

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Musk quit OpenAI in 2018. He continues to warn against AI. He called OpenAI executives greedy in the complaint.
