According to Sag Harbor police, singer Justin Timberlake was taken into custody early on Tuesday in Long Island.

Timberlake ran a stop sign at Madison Street and Jermain Avenue in Sag Harbor, according to court filings, and was stopped shortly after 12:30 a.m. Timberlake reportedly failed to stay on the right side of the road after driving a BMW through a stop sign, according to an officer's report.

The police said that Timberlake was "in an intoxicated condition" when he was pulled over, that "his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath," and that he "performed poorly on all standard field sobriety tests."

"I had one martini and I followed my friends home," Timberlake allegedly told the officer. He also allegedly refused to do a chemical test.

According to his lawyer, Justin Timberlake was freed from police detention in New York after being charged with one count of driving while intoxicated.

Timberlake's court appointment is set on July 26 and he was released without posting bail.

As part of his global "Forget Tomorrow" tour, 43-year-old Timberlake is promoting his sixth album, "Everything I Thought It Was." Before continuing the tour overseas, he has gigs scheduled in Chicago, New York City, Boston, and Baltimore, among other U.S. cities.
