Britney Spears' memoir 'The Woman in Me' is coming to the big screen
The story of Britney Spears will soon be seen on a big screen.
The biopic based on the singer's 2023 best-selling book, "The Woman in Me," has been acquired by Universal Pictures, the company said on Thursday.
The director of the movie is Jon M. Chu, who is getting ready for the November release of his much awaited movie "Wicked," which stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. According to Universal's press statement, Marc Platt will serve as producer.
On Thursday, Spears posted on X, “Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned!”
In October 2023, Spears' memoir was published, detailing her ascent to celebrity and her contentious 13-year conservatorship. In her writings, she also discussed her relationship and separation with Justin Timberlake, revealing that she had an abortion during their over 20-year courtship.
According to Universal, the book sold 1.1 million copies in the United States during its first week of release and has since sold over 2.5 million copies in the country.
“I went from partying a lot to being a total monk,” Spears writes in the memoir. “Security guards handed me prepackaged envelopes of meds and watched me take them. They put parental controls on my iPhone. Everything was scrutinized and controlled. Everything.”
It's unclear precisely which passages from the book the biopic will concentrate on.
