In her memoir, Britney Spears admits she had an abortion after her Justin Timberlake pregnancy

People magazine published an excerpt of Britney Spears' upcoming biography Tuesday, revealing she underwent an abortion after becoming pregnant with Justin Timberlake.

“Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy,” Spears writes in her memoir about her pregnancy with 18-year-old Timberlake. “He said we were too young to have a baby.”

While 17, Spears began dating Timberlake in 1999 and dated until 2002. In her memoir, "The Woman in Me," the 41-year-old singer remembers meeting Timberlake at 11 on the set of "The Mickey Mouse Club" and kissing him during a game of Truth or Dare.

"The Woman in Me" debuts Oct. 24. Spears wrote of her "soul-crushing" 13-year conservatorship under her father James “Jamie” Spears.

She was placed under conservatorship in 2008 after a public breakdown and psychiatric holds.

Spears' biography depicts brief intervals of teenage normalcy in Kentwood, Louisiana, between her star performances.

"Part of me wanted to keep constructing the dream, while another wanted to live a normal life in Louisiana. Spears wrote, "I had to let normalcy win."

"Living that way, being half yourself and half a fictional character, is messed up," she said. "After a while you don’t know what’s real anymore."

Spears' conservatorship ended in November 2021. In her memoir, she said her newfound freedom forced her to reinvent herself as a confident woman instead of a meek girl.
