According to the Los Angeles Times, citing law enforcement sources, Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing on "Friends," died in an apparent drowning accident at his Los Angeles home.

He was 54.

The LA Times said that no foul play is suspected.

Perry, who was born in Williamstown, Massachusetts, to an actor father and a journalist mother, moved to Ottawa, Canada, as a child to live with his mother after his parents divorced.

Growing up, he pursued his passion for tennis and rose to become a top-ranked tennis player in Canada. After coming to Los Angeles to live with his father as a kid, the younger Perry developed an interest in acting as well.

Perry's first credited appearance was a small part in the drama "240-Robert" in 1979. Other small roles followed, including "Charles in Charge," "Silver Spoons," and "The Tracey Ullman Show."

Perry continues to land high-profile parts in productions such as "Growing Pains," "Who's The Boss?" and "Beverly Hills, 90210."

But it was his role as the charming and acerbic Chandler Bing on the 1994 sitcom "Friends" that made him famous.

In 2002, he was nominated for a primetime Emmy for the role. He has received four further nominations for the renowned TV acting prize, including two for his role as Joe Quincy on "The West Wing."

Perry co-starred in the sitcom "Friends" with Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, and Lisa Kudrow.
