Actor Kenneth Mitchell of "Star Trek" passed away at age 49

The family of Kenneth Mitchell, known for his roles in "Star Trek: Discovery" and Marvel's "Captain Marvel," announced his passing in a statement shared on his verified social media account on Sunday. Mitchell was 49 years old.

In the statement, the family expressed their sorrow over the loss of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, describing him as a cherished father, husband, brother, uncle, son, and friend.

Diagnosed with ALS in 2018, Mitchell and his family regularly provided updates on his health in recent years. In August, he acknowledged the fifth anniversary of his diagnosis in an Instagram post.

Originally from Canada, Mitchell amassed over 50 film and television credits throughout his acting career. His roles included portraying the father of Carol Danvers in Marvel's 2019 "Captain Marvel" and an Olympic hopeful in the 2004 hockey film "Miracle."

From 2017 to 2021, Mitchell portrayed various characters such as the Klingons Kol, Kol-Sha, and Tenavik, as well as Aurellio, in "Star Trek: Discovery."

Surviving Mitchell are his wife, Susan, and their two young children
