Actor Nicky Katt, recognized for his roles in the popular indie film "Dazed and Confused" and the series "Boston Public," has passed away at the age of 54.

Katt's passing was confirmed by his attorney, John Sloss, although further details were not provided.

Beginning his acting career as a child, Katt evolved into a versatile character actor, frequently portraying antagonistic henchmen. He collaborated with esteemed filmmakers such as Richard Linklater, Christopher Nolan, and Steven Soderbergh.

Born in South Dakota on May 11, 1970, Katt entered acting early, appearing in numerous television series throughout the 1980s, including "ChiPs," "Code Red," "Herbie, The Love Bug," and "Voyagers!"

In 1993, Katt gained notable attention playing Clint Bruno in Richard Linklater's iconic coming-of-age film "Dazed and Confused," set in Austin, Texas, and depicting teenagers celebrating their final school day in May 1976. He starred alongside actors Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, and Parker Posey.

Following "Dazed and Confused," Katt continued collaborating with Linklater in films such as "SubUrbia" and "School of Rock." Additionally, he worked with director Christopher Nolan, playing a detective in "Insomnia" and a SWAT team member in "The Dark Knight."

Katt notably portrayed geology teacher Harry Senate for three seasons on the drama series "Boston Public," centered around life in a Boston high school. The series featured co-stars Chi McBride, Anthony Heald, Loretta Devine, and Michael Rapaport.

His other notable film appearances include "A Time to Kill," "Sin City," and the 2000 crime-thriller "Boiler Room," alongside Vin Diesel and Giovanni Ribisi. Katt also made television appearances in various shows, ranging from "The Facts of Life" to "Friends," with his latest credited role in a 2018 episode of Hulu's "Casual."
