According to Buenos Aires authorities, Liam Payne, a former member of the boyband One Direction, died after falling from a hotel window. His age was thirty-one.

According to a police statement, Payne died on Wednesday at a hotel on Costa Rica Street in the Palermo neighborhood.

Police in Buenos Aires reported that after receiving a 911 call regarding an angry guy who may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs, officers from the 14B Police Station visited the hotel on Wednesday afternoon. That individual was not identified as Payne in the police statement.

Payne, one of the five founding members of One Direction, which is well-known for songs like "What Makes You Beautiful" and "Story of My Life," was born in Wolverhampton, England.

Since 2016, the group—which also consists of Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan—has been on indefinite leave. One of the original members, Zayn Malik, departed before to the group's pause.

Following their appearance on the television program "The X Factor," One Direction was founded in 2010.

According to Billboard, the band, commonly known as 1D, sold over 50 million records and made history in 2014 by becoming the first group to have four albums debut at the top of the Billboard 200.

In 2015, One Direction declared that they will be taking a break. Later, in 2019, Payne's first solo album, "LP1," was published. Payne revealed in May 2023 that he was planning a tour and that he was "really excited" about the new record he was working on.

Like Styles and other bandmates, Payne started a solo career once One Direction took a break. In 2016, Payne became a Republic Records signee.

He received three Brit Awards nominations: twice in 2018 for "Strip That Down" and its music video, and once in 2019 for "For You."

Due to a severe kidney infection, Payne had to postpone his South American tour last year, which included performances in Peru, Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico. In a video describing his choice, he informed supporters that he was hospitalized due to illness.

In 2023, Payne, who battled alcoholism, declared himself 100 days sober. He described how One Direction members rose to fame too quickly in a 2021 podcast interview, adding that he frequently resorted to alcohol as a coping mechanism for the growing demands of being a part of the internationally renowned boy band.

Payne's song "Teardrops" was released in March of this year.

In 2017, Payne and Cheryl Cole, a former "X Factor" judge, had a baby.
