MTV cancels the 2023 EMAs because of volatile global events

As the fighting in the Middle East continues, the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), which were supposed to happen in Paris on November 5, are called off. This was announced on the show's social media pages Thursday.

“Given the volatility of world events, we have decided not to move forward with the 2023 MTV EMAs out of an abundance of caution for the thousands of employees, crew members, artists, fans, and partners who travel from all corners of the world to bring the show to life,” the network said in a statement.

And finally, "The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of global music," the statement said. "As we watch the terrible events in Israel and Gaza grow worse, now doesn't seem like the time for a global celebration." It's a sad time because thousands of people have already died.

Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, SZA, Miley Cyrus, and Taylor Swift are some of the acts who have been nominated the most this year. Also, 26 people are nominated for the first time. Ice Spice, BTS's Jung Kook, and Reneé Rapp are among them.

Rodrigo and SZA are right behind her with six nominations each. Swift has the most nominations with seven. They are all up for best singer, best song, and best video.

MTV said that people can vote for the 2023 show until the end of the month, and the "winning artists" will still get their MTV EMA awards.
