Jon Rahm withdrew from the U.S. Open on Tuesday afternoon due to an infection in his left foot, which raised concerns about its impact on his overall game.

The two-time major champion noted that this foot infection, which had also prompted his withdrawal from the previous week's LIV Golf tournament in Houston, is troubling as he heads into the third major championship of the year.

Rahm explained that the injury is a lesion or cut located between the pinkie toe and the next toe on his left foot. He is unsure of how the injury occurred or how it developed into an infection. During last Saturday's round in Houston, he had to receive an injection to numb the pain and allow him to play.

"It was supposed to last the whole round, and by my second hole I was in pain already," Rahm said. "The infection was the worrisome part. The infection is now controlled, but there's still swelling and there's still pain."

Having secured a top-10 finish and a Masters win in 2023 before his move to LIV, Rahm is currently ranked eighth in the world. This year at Augusta, he finished tied for 45th, and he failed to make the cut at the PGA Championship in Louisville.
