Six-time Olympic gold champion Chris Hoy reveals cancer diagnosis
Chris Hoy, a six-time Olympic gold medalist, has disclosed his battle with cancer, expressing his optimism, positivity, and gratitude for the support he's receiving.
At 47 years old, Hoy shared on Instagram that he's currently undergoing chemotherapy following his diagnosis last year. He emphasized the unexpected nature of his diagnosis, having experienced no symptoms prior to the revelation.
“My heart goes out to the many others who are also going through similar challenges right now,” he wrote. “I’m optimistic, positive and surrounded by love for which I’m truly grateful. As you might imagine, the last few months have been incredibly difficult.
“However, I currently feel fine – I am continuing to work, ride my bike and live my life as normal. It’s an exciting year of work ahead, not least with the Paris Olympics in July. I can’t wait to get stuck in, have fun and share it with you all.”
Renowned as one of Great Britain's most accomplished Olympians, Chris Hoy has left an indelible mark in the track cycling sphere. Retiring in 2013, he held the title of Team GB's most decorated Olympian with six gold medals, a record later surpassed by Jason Kenny, who has seven.
Hoy's illustrious career also includes 11 world championship medals, the earliest of which he secured in 1999.
