Craig Breslow, an ex-pitcher, was appointed chief baseball officer by the Red Sox

Ex-pitcher Craig Breslow was named Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Wednesday.

In 2006 and 2012-15, Breslow pitched for Boston. His most recent position was assistant general manager in the Cubs front office since 2019. Breslow will oversee all baseball operations, Boston said.

Second Yale graduate to lead Red Sox baseball operations. After three consecutive last-place finishes in four seasons, Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom was fired in September. Breslow will replace Bloom.

Breslow stated, “I couldn't be more excited to return to the Boston Red Sox, an organization that means so much to my family and me.” I know how special winning in Boston is, and I look forward to sharing that passion and success with our fans again.”

Breslow is hoped to be more like another Yalie, Theo Epstein, who built the teams that ended the Red Sox's 86-year World Series drought in 2004 and 2007.
