The school reports that Utah State cornerback Andre Seldon Jr. passed away on Saturday after seemingly drowning in a Utah reservoir. His age was 22.

The Cache County Sheriff's Office reports that after receiving reports from people saying they saw a young man cliff diving and he did not come back, a search was launched near Porcupine Reservoir on Saturday afternoon.

At 9:05 p.m. MT, Seldon's body was found following a protracted search that involved the use of a dive team and a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter.

"Our investigation leads us to believe this is a tragic accident as multiple witnesses recount the same information," the Cache County Sheriff's Office said.

Seldon transferred from New Mexico State, where he played for two seasons under defensive coordinator and current Utah State interim coach Nate Dreiling, to join the program this year. Seldon enrolled at the University of Michigan to start his college career.

For New Mexico State, Seldon played in 28 games and racked up 96 tackles along with two interceptions. He contributed to the Aggies' 10-win season in 2023, which was one of the program's best seasons in many years.

Seldon attended Belleville High School and was rated as one of the top high school cornerbacks in the country by ESPN, as well as Michigan's fourth-best prospect in the 2020 class.

He guided the Tigers to conference, district, and regional titles as a senior in 2019 and earned them a berth in the MHSAA Division 1 state playoffs. Seldon chose to attend Michigan, where he lettered for two years and was named Academic All-Big Ten in 2021.

This fall, Seldon was scheduled to start classes at Utah State.
