Liverpool and Feyenoord agree on compensation deal for Arne Slot to become new Reds manager

Liverpool and Feyenoord have reached an agreement, on a compensation package of £9.4 million for Arne Slot to take over the role at Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp announced in January that he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the 2023 24 season with the expectation being that Arne Slot will step in as his replacement.

Having guided Liverpool to their Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles in 30 years since his arrival at Anfield in 2015 Klopp confirmed his departure at the end of this season.

Slot said on Thursday: “It seems clear to me that I would like to go to Liverpool. Now I’m waiting to see whether the clubs reach an agreement. I’m very confident in that.”

Before finalizing the appointment negotiations between Liverpool and the 45 year old manager are set to take place.

As part of the deal Liverpool will pay Feyenoord £7.7 million (9 million euros) upfront along with an £1.7 million (2 million euros) in performance based add ons.

Arne Slot led Feyenoord to victory in the Eredivisie title race for the 2022 23 season also securing success in the Dutch Cup competition and finishing as runners up, in another competition.Slot took over as the manager of Feyenoord in 2021. Has shown interest, in managing Tottenham in the Premier League by 2023.

Klopp, who had no say in selecting Slot as his replacement mentioned during a press conference on Friday that he admires the style of play exhibited by Slots teams.

"I like the way his team play football. All the things I hear about him as a guy say he’s a good guy," Klopp said.

"I like that a lot - good guy, good coach and looking forward for the club if he is the solution. I’m more than happy, it sounds all really good."
