Real Madrid have announced the acquisition of Kylian Mbappé on a free transfer, concluding their years-long pursuit of the star player.

Mbappé’s transfer from Paris Saint-Germain was confirmed just two days after Real Madrid secured their record-extending 15th European Cup with a victory over Borussia Dortmund.

The French forward will earn an annual salary ranging from €15 million (£12.8 million) to €20 million (£17 million), with yearly increases. Additionally, he will receive a €125 million (£106.5 million) signing bonus, distributed over the five years of his contract, and will retain 80% of his image rights.

Currently preparing with France for Euro 2024, Mbappé is expected to be officially presented by Madrid in mid-July and will wear the No. 9 shirt next season. Real Madrid’s statement confirmed: “Real Madrid and Kylian Mbappé have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next five seasons.”

Mbappé originally joined PSG from Monaco in 2017 for a reported fee of $214 million, making him the second most expensive player in the world after Neymar Jr.
