Carlos Alcaraz defeats an unseeded Italian to advance to the quarterfinals of the US Open

In his third appearance at Flushing Meadows, Carlos Alcaraz easily defeated unseeded Matteo Arnaldi 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 on Monday to advance to the U.S. Open quarterfinals.

The No. 1-seeded Alcaraz, who is attempting to defend his championship after winning Wimbledon in July, stated afterward that he now loves hard courts above any other surface and also enjoys playing beneath the Arthur Ashe Stadium roof. He relished both against the 61st-ranked Italian Arnaldi, who was no match for Alcaraz's power, which resulted in 31 victories.

The 20-year-old Spaniard became the first person outside Andre Agassi to reach three quarterfinals of the U.S. Open before turning 21 by making it to the round of eight.
