Outside the courtroom where the Trump trial is being held, a man sets himself on fire

On Friday, outside the courthouse hosting the trial concerning former President Donald Trump's hush money, a man self-immolated. The incident unfolded in the designated protest zone, with flames engulfing him suddenly. Prompt action from police officers and officials ensued, with someone employing a fire extinguisher to douse the flames.

This occurrence coincided with the completion of jury selection, with 12 jurors and six alternates chosen for a trial anticipated to span approximately six weeks. The incident took place around 1:50 p.m. ET, just preceding the court's lunch recess.

The New York Police Department reported that emergency services transported the injured individual via ambulance to a hospital. The NYPD confirmed the fire's extinguishment.

Details regarding the man's identity, his condition, or the motivations behind his self-immolation remain unclear.
