In Michigan, a suspected drunk driver crashes into a child's birthday party, killing the siblings
An 8-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother lost their lives, while at least nine others sustained severe injuries during a children's birthday celebration at a boat club in Newport, Michigan, on Saturday. The tragic incident occurred when a driver crashed into the building where the party was being held.
Authorities stated that a 66-year-old woman, suspected of being intoxicated while driving, was apprehended and is currently detained at the Monroe County Jail, as announced by Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough in a Saturday press briefing. The two children were declared deceased at the accident site.
The vehicle collided with the Swan Boat Club around 3 p.m. on Saturday, halting about 25 feet inside the structure, where the birthday party was in progress, as reported by the sheriff’s office in a Sunday news release.
Emergency responders administered immediate aid to 15 individuals, with nine being transported to hospitals by ambulance or helicopter, according to the release. Additional victims sought medical assistance independently.
