On the campus of Delaware State University, an 18-year-old woman was fatally shot

Authorities are probing the tragic shooting death of an 18-year-old woman near a dormitory on the campus of Delaware State University early Sunday morning.

According to Dover Police, campus authorities received reports of gunfire on campus at around 1:40 a.m. in the vicinity of Warren-Franklin Hall, where they discovered the victim with a gunshot wound to her upper body. The victim, who remains unidentified, was not enrolled at the university and hails from Wilmington, approximately 50 miles north of the campus.

"Officers provided immediate assistance to the victim, who was then transported to Bayhealth Kent Campus for medical treatment," stated the police. "Unfortunately, the 18-year-old succumbed to her injuries and passed away at the hospital."

Dover Police have initiated a homicide inquiry and are collaborating with the Delaware State University Police in the investigation.
