Judge rejects motion to dismiss indictment against Alec Baldwin in 'Rust' shooting case
Alec Baldwin is set to face trial, for manslaughter in connection to the death of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer on the film "Rust," as per a recent decision by a New Mexico court. Despite his plea of not guilty Baldwin will go to trial in July.
Baldwins legal team had tried to have the case dismissed based on misconduct by the jury. Initially in 2023 the involuntary manslaughter charges against Baldwin were dropped due to time constraints and new evidence in the case provided by law enforcement.
However Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer decided to uphold the manslaughter charge against Baldwin despite his defense teams claims of misconduct. Baldwins attorneys accused prosecutors of mishandling evidence and witnesses.
This year Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the armorer, on "Rust " was found guilty of one count of manslaughter related to Hutchins tragic passing.Gutierrez Reed was, in charge of managing firearms and bullets during the shooting, including six bullets, one of which was found in Baldwins gun as reported by prosecutors.
Gutierrez Reed received an 18 month prison sentence, in the state.
