Shooting at Yellowstone National Park leaves ranger injured

A shooting in Yellowstone National Park left one park ranger injured and the shooter dead, according to the National Park Service.

The incident began Wednesday night and concluded the morning of July 4, as stated in a press release from Yellowstone National Park. Rangers responded to reports of an armed individual making threats at Canyon Village, located south of Tower Falls in the central part of the park.

According to Yellowstone National Park authorities, rangers arrived overnight to address the threats posed by the armed individual in the Canyon Village area.

When the rangers confronted the individual, gunfire was exchanged, resulting in the shooter's death. The shooter's identity has not been released. The injured ranger is in stable condition after being flown to a nearby regional hospital.

Authorities have closed off the area surrounding the Canyon Lodge complex for investigation, advising the public to avoid the area until further notice.
