Authorities in Philadelphia reported that early on Sunday, multiple attackers opened fire at a party, wounding nine individuals, three of them fatally.

According to the Philadelphia Police Department, the mass shooting occurred at roughly two in the morning on the 1200 block of North Alden Street in the Carroll Park neighborhood of West Philadelphia. There was a party going on there with over a hundred guests.

According to Philadelphia police Inspector D.F. Pace, during a press conference at the scene, authorities discovered numerous expended round shells spread around the area and victims suffering from gunshot wounds when they arrived.

"It appears that there were multiple shooters. It's unclear at this time how many. But we have counted at least 25 to 30 spent shell casings at this time," Pace said. "We're not sure if it was a block party or just simply a group of individuals who were invited from other parts of the city. It's just not clear at this time."

Authorities reported that they had found one gun at the location.

"Preliminary information indicates an exchange of gunfire between multiple parties resulting in a nonuple shooting and triple homicide," police said in a statement.

According to police, the gunshot murdered three guys, ages 23, 29, and 33. One died on the scene, and two were transferred to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where they were confirmed dead, authorities said.

The other shooting victims were a 26-year-old lady and five men aged 26 to 30, according to authorities. Police stated all were in stable condition.

The inquiry into the shooting continues.
