A guy who reportedly shot a police officer in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, was apprehended Sunday night following an hours-long blockade, according to a Montgomery County spokesman.

Around 5:05 p.m. Sunday, police responded to a single-vehicle accident near the intersection of Beech Street and North Mount Vernon Street in Pottstown Borough.

"At the scene, officers struggled with one of the vehicle's occupants as he attempted to reach for a firearm in the vehicle," the Montgomery County DA's Office said in a statement.

Authorities said the man escaped on foot to his residence on Winding Road. Once there, the suspect reportedly fired at cops, striking one in the shoulder.

The DA's office reported that police returned fire but did not hit the suspect.

The wounded officer has been brought to the hospital by EMS and is in stable condition.

The perpetrator was besieged inside the house for many hours until being arrested shortly before 11 p.m.

Multiple police enforcement units encircled a home on Winding Road, where the suspect is thought to have escaped.

After an hour-long standoff in which a shelter-in-place order was issued for everyone within 150 yards of the property, police claim they have apprehended one suspect.

Police have not identified the suspect.
