The U.S. Geological Survey reports that an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 occurs just south of Hawaii's Big Island

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake occurred Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, and it was felt just south of Hawaii's Big Island.

The earthquake was centered 11 miles (18 kilometers) south of Naalehu, Hawaii, at a depth of 6 miles (10 kilometers). The USGS first reported the earthquake's magnitude as 6.3 before reducing it. No tsunami was predicted, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

About 200 miles (322 kilometers) to the north, in Honolulu, on the island of Oahu, there was some shaking.

“Many areas may have experienced strong shaking,” from the earthquake that occurred shortly after 10 a.m. local time, the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency posted on X. It also restated the fact that a tsunami posed no threat.
