2 dead after small plane carrying 5 lands on Florida interstate and hits vehicle, authorities say

According to authorities, a small aircraft carrying five individuals crash-landed on an interstate in southwest Florida, resulting in the deaths of two people.

The tragic event took place in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near mile marker 107 in Collier County on Friday afternoon, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol. Footage from the scene depicted wreckage emitting smoke on the interstate, with numerous emergency vehicles present with their lights flashing.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office confirmed the deaths of two individuals in the incident, although it remains uncertain whether they were passengers of the aircraft. Additionally, it is unclear if any other individuals sustained serious injuries in the collision.

The crash occurred around 3:15 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration, which identified the aircraft as a Bombardier Challenger 600 jet.
