Following the destruction of the Baltimore bridge by a cargo ship, six people are missing

Early Tuesday morning, a significant bridge in Baltimore collapsed following a collision with a container ship, resembling a house of cards tumbling down. This incident resulted in numerous vehicles falling into the dark waters below, prompting an extensive search for survivors and causing the closure of one of the nation's busiest ports.

Maryland Governor Wes Moore declared a state of emergency and clarified that the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge was likely an accident rather than a deliberate act of terrorism.

Governor Moore explained that the cargo ship Dali had reported a loss of power and issued a distress signal just moments before colliding with a bridge support at a speed of eight knots, equivalent to about nine miles per hour.

Simultaneously, rescue teams, utilizing sonar technology, identified at least five vehicles submerged in the chilly waters, comprising three passenger cars, a cement truck, and another unidentified vehicle, according to Moore.

There were workers present on the bridge engaged in repairs when the ship struck a support pillar, and at least six individuals were reported missing, Governor Moore added, emphasizing that the primary objective remains the rescue and preservation of lives.
