A 17-year-old has been taken into custody in relation to the Morgan State University mass shooting

The Baltimore Police Department announced Friday that a 17-year-old was detained in connection with the October 3 Morgan State University mass shooting that injured five people.

Police say he was arrested without incident Thursday on multiple attempted murder allegations.

Police issued a warrant for 18-year-old Jovan Williams, another shooting suspect. Police say he is armed and dangerous and at large.

Police say shooting surveillance video identified the shooters.

“BPD has been working tirelessly on the investigation into this incident and are grateful for the many partners that assisted us in identifying and capturing one of our suspects,” Commissioner Richard Worley stated in the release. “We won't rest until Williams is arrested. This arrest cannot restore the devastation and pain caused that day, but I hope it brings peace and justice to the victims, the Morgan neighborhood, and our city.”

The incident occurred as a popular homecoming week celebration ended. The Gun Violence Archive reports at least 543 mass shootings with at least four victims in the US this year, including 17 at US colleges and universities in North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Michigan.
