President of a Detroit synagogue was discovered fatally stabbed outside her house

Saturday morning, the president of a Detroit synagogue was found fatally stabbed outside her home.

Samantha Woll, 40, led the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue congregation. In a statement issued Saturday, the synagogue said, "We are shocked and saddened to learn of the unexpected death of Samantha Woll, our Board President."

"May her memory be a blessing," said the statement.

Authorities said a 911 call was placed to Woll's home early Saturday, reporting an unresponsive person lying on the ground. Police discovered multiple stab wounds on Woll's body, as well as a blood trail leading to her home, where they believe the crime took place.

An investigation is currently underway. The motive for the crime is unknown at this time.

Woll was connected to state Democrats. She previously worked for Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin and on Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel's re-election campaign.
