Five injured and an 11-year-old dead following a shooting in Cincinnati

Five people were hurt in a shooting in Cincinnati on Friday night, including the death of an 11-year-old boy, according to police.

As per the Cincinnati Police Department, the incident happened at approximately 9:20 p.m. Eastern Time.

Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge said that police arrived at the location in response to ShotSpotter alerts from the city's West End neighborhood.

The 11-year-old victim was declared dead at the scene, according to the police.

Three victims—one of whom is receiving treatment for potentially fatal injuries—were taken to Children's Hospital Medical Center, according to police on Saturday.

Police reported that two more victims were taken to University Hospital.

Theetge told reporters late on Friday that it was unclear what precipitated the shooting.

"Homicide is here working the scene ... so that we can gather every bit of evidence that we can gather to bring whoever's responsible for this to justice," said Theetge. "This is absolutely unacceptable in our city -- unacceptable that on a Friday night, six people were shot in one incident."
