Derek Chauvin, officer who killed George Floyd, expected to survive jail stabbing
After being stabbed while incarcerated, Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer found guilty of killing George Floyd, is anticipated to make a full recovery, the Minnesota Attorney General's Office announced on Saturday.
On Friday, Chauvin was admitted to the hospital after being attacked at the medium-security Federal Correctional Institution located in Tucson.According to a law enforcement source with firsthand knowledge of the incident, Chauvin suffered severe injuries during the assault.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, "responding employees initiated life-saving measures for one incarcerated individual."
Attorney General of Minnesota Keith Ellison described himself as "saddened" by the occurrence in a statement released on Friday.
