Agents of the California Border Patrol were shot at by a group that was attempting to smuggle illegal immigrants
According to the United States Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol agents who work in California have faced a serious escalation of violence by human smugglers in recent weeks. This violence has been perpetrated by human smugglers.
An officer from the Border Patrol who was working in the Otay Mountain Wilderness region earlier this month came across a group of migrants. While the agent was attempting to apprehend the migrants, an unknown assailant opened fire on them.
Additional agents were dispatched to the scene, where they witnessed muzzle flashes and heard gunshots emanating from the general area. CBP stated that the firing was then directed towards the responding agents, which forced them to take shelter while the group and the attacker fled across the border.
