Officials claim that American intelligence uncovered an Iranian plot against Trump

Although U.S. intelligence hasn't discovered any connections between the unsuccessful attempt on former President Donald Trump's life on Saturday by gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, and any foreign or domestic collaborator, it has recently discovered an Iranian plan against the previous president.

The Secret Service was informed by the National Security Council once they became aware of the increased threat. In response, the Secret Service expanded tools and resources in June to better safeguard Trump. Drones, robotic dogs, members of the Counter Assault and Counter Sniper teams, and other resources were made available.

Since he authorized the drone attack death of Qassim Soleimani, the head of Iran's Quds force, in Iraq in 2020, Tehran has threatened Trump and other officials, including his former secretary of state, Mike Pompeo.

In addition to calling the report "unsubstantiated and malicious," the Iranian delegation to the UN stated that Trump was "a criminal who must be prosecuted and punished in a court of law."

Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the US Secret Service, said it and other agencies were "constantly receiving new potential threat information and taking action to adjust resources, as needed".

"We cannot comment on any specific threat stream, other than to say that the Secret Service takes threats seriously and responds accordingly.”

"We do not comment on President Trump's security detail," a Trump campaign spokesperson said Tuesday.

Following the botched assassination attempt on Saturday, the Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security as a whole are coming under intense scrutiny. The gunman wounded Trump, murdered one bystander, and gravely wounded two more before being shot and killed by a Secret Service sniper.

Congress is looking into the Secret Service, and President Joe Biden has demanded an independent investigation on how the gunman might have killed Trump so close to home.
