A tornado hits the urban center of Guangzhou in southern China

According to reports, from state media a tornado hit Guangzhou, a city with a population of 19 million in China on Saturday. The incident resulted in the loss of five lives and injuries to 33 individuals.

Officials mentioned that the tornado reached level three intensity, which's two levels below the level of five. An investigation is currently ongoing to assess the extent of the damage caused by the tornado as per Xinhua the state news agency.

This tornado occurred after days of rain in southern China causing deadly floods and putting tens of millions at risk. Rescue teams are actively engaged in evacuating individuals who are trapped due to rising water levels.

The weather forecast indicates rainfall and severe convective conditions for the province over the five days.

On Saturday authorities, in Guangzhou revealed that the city witnessed its April rainfall since 1951 totaling 455.8mm.
