One dead, two injured in Paris knife-and-hammer attack near Eiffel Tower, interior minister says

On Saturday night, France's Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin told reporters at the scene that police had apprehended a man accused of murdering one and injured two in central Paris.

The attacker used a knife and hammer at Bir Hakeim near the Eiffel Tower, he claimed.

He stated that one German tourist born in the Philippines was killed and two others were injured.

Darmanin said a responding cop tased the perpetrator. The suspect's life is safe, he said.

Darmanin told reporters that the suspect was a 1997 French citizen condemned to four years in jail in 2016 for preparing “violent action.”

Darmanin said police told him the perpetrator shouted “Allahu Akbar” throughout the assault.
