In Red Sea, U.S. and allies shoot down over 2 dozen Houthi drones

The Pentagon announced that a collective effort by the U.S. military and its allies successfully intercepted and destroyed approximately 28 drones launched by Iranian-backed Houthi insurgents in Yemen's Red Sea region early Saturday.

According to U.S. Central Command's social media update, the drones were launched within a span of roughly four hours, from 4 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. local time.

Grant Shapps, the U.K. Defense Secretary, shared footage on social media showing the British warship HMS Richmond engaging and neutralizing two Houthi drones.

In a separate incident last weekend, a British-owned vessel, previously targeted by a Houthi missile in February, sank in the Red Sea, marking the first ship lost to Houthi attacks. The sinking also resulted in the severance of three undersea telecommunication cables.

In response to these escalating hostilities, the United States and the United Kingdom, backed by coalition forces, have conducted four rounds of airstrikes targeting Houthi military installations in Yemen since mid-January.
