Walmart will shut down its whole Walmart Health division and close 51 clinics
Walmart stated Tuesday that it would close all doctor-staffed clinics nationwide as it closes its Walmart Health division after deciding that the facilities weren't profitable. The business is closing clinics and starting to close Walmart Health Virtual Care.
Walmart will close 51 staffed health clinics in Florida, Arkansas, Georgia, Texas, and Illinois, with more than half in Florida. In recent years, Walmart opened clinics near to its superstores offering primary and urgent care, laboratories, X-rays, behavioral health, and dental work.
The unexpected change in Walmart's policy may leave lower-income people without insurance who relied on the facilities without health care services.
Walmart claimed it was a “difficult decision,” but the “challenging reimbursement environment and escalating operating costs” made its health care initiative unprofitable.
Despite this move, Walmart reassured that it will maintain operations for its 4,600 pharmacies and over 3,000 optical centers across the country.
