YouTubers that employ artificial intelligence (AI) in their videos will soon have to declare it or face suspension

New AI content regulations on YouTube demand producers to disclose whether they employed generative AI to create realistic videos.

YouTube said artists who don't identify whether they've used AI technologies to generate “altered or synthetic” videos risk having their work banned or suspension from the revenue sharing program in a blog post Tuesday explaining AI policy modifications.

In a blog post, product management vice presidents Jennifer Flannery O'Connor and Emily Moxley said that “generative AI has the potential to unlock creativity on YouTube and transform the experience for viewers and creators on our platform.” But just as important, we must balance these opportunities with protecting the YouTube community.

Google, YouTube's parent firm, said in September that political ads on YouTube and other Google platforms using artificial intelligence must include a conspicuous warning notice.

By next year, YouTubers will be able to declare whether they're releasing AI-generated videos that convincingly depict an event that never happened or show someone saying or doing something they didn't do.

Viewers will see labels on edited videos, including notable ones on YouTube for sensitive issues.

YouTube music partners like record labels and distributors can request the removal of AI-generated music “that mimics an artist’s unique singing or rapping voice.”
