Al Gore is leaving the board of directors at Apple
Al Gore is leaving the Apple Board of Directors, primarily due to his advanced age and inability to be renominated.
It has long been Apple policy for its directors to be ineligible for reelection once they turn 75. Accordingly, Gore, who is currently 75, should retire, the company said on Thursday.
According to the company, Gore has been a member of the Apple board since 2003. In addition, he was a climate activist and the 45th vice president of the United States.
According to an SEC filing, the Nobel laureate was paid $376,894 for his service on Apple's board of directors in 2023. Stock awards worth $275,022 were included in that total.
The manufacturer of iPhones announced that Wanda Austin, a former CEO and president of The Aerospace Corporation, would be the company's nominee for election to the Apple board in their stead. Dr. Austin is a supporter of STEM education and a member of the boards of Amgen Inc. and Chevron.
