Actor Martin Mull, known for ‘Roseanne’ and ‘Veep,’ dies at 80

Actor Martin Mull, who starred in a number of TV shows and motion pictures, including "Clue," "Veep," "Roseanne," "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman," and "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," has away at the age of 80.

After a "valiant fight against a long illness," Mull passed away at home on Thursday, according to what his daughter Maggie Mull posted on Instagram. 

“He was known for excelling at every creative discipline imaginable and also for doing Red Roof Inn commercials,” she wrote. “He would find that joke funny. He was never not funny. My dad will be deeply missed by his wife and daughter, by his friends and coworkers, by fellow artists and comedians and musicians, and — the sign of a truly exceptional person — by many, many dogs. I loved him tremendously.”

Mull, who is well-known for his neatly styled mustache and blonde hair, was born in Chicago, raised in Ohio and Connecticut, and attended art schools in Rhode Island and Rome. In the 1970s, he performed comedy and music together in trendy Hollywood bars.

The actor starred in his first movie in 1978's "FM," and he last appeared in a motion picture in 2018's "A Futile and Stupid Gesture," costarring comedian Will Forte. Mull starred in a number of well-known motion pictures, including "101 Dalmatians," "Jingle All the Way," and Mrs. Doubtfire. Mull's most well-known cinematic role was perhaps that of Colonel Mustard in the beloved comedy "Clue," which came out in 1985.

In 2016, he received his lone Emmy nomination for his portrayal of political strategist Bob Bradley on Veep.
