Sauce Walka and his artist Sayso P were allegedly shot in Memphis near the FedExForum on Saturday. Sayso P died from his injuries, although Sauce Walka survived and is in stable condition. The incident occurred outside the Westin Hotel, resulting in a large police presence and traffic restrictions in the neighborhood.

According to local sources, the event occurred near the junction of Second Street and Lt. George W. Lee Avenue. Memphis police and emergency crews came shortly after. Sauce Walka was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, while Sayso P allegedly died on the site.

For Sauce Walka, the recent occurrence feels like a bad déjà vu. Over the last three years, the Houston rapper, renowned for his flamboyant attitude, fancy lifestyle, and high-energy bars, has made more headlines for violence and controversy than for his music. He's been outspoken, brazen, and unrepentant about his place in the rap game — a real product of the southern trap movement — but it has come at a steep price.

Sayso P, while not as well-known as Sauce Walka, was an important member of The Sauce Factory (TSF), the independent collective and label formed by Sauce himself. He was being groomed as Texas' next great star: a street poet with charm, a gritty tone, and an incredible ability to ride a rhythm. Fans had waited for his single breakthrough moment. Tragically, that time will never arrive.  His death cuts short a life that was just starting to blossom.

Sayso P deserves more.  He was meant to be the next chapter in the TSF tale. Sauce Walka, who is now clinging to life but is likely to recover, is left with yet another bullet scar, another funeral to attend, and yet another opportunity to reflect on what this business has become.

Sauce Walka is an underground rapper from Houston who has collaborated with artists such as Chief Keef and Travis Scott. He is most known for his "Sorry 4 The Sauce" and "Sauce Ghetto Gospel" mixtape series, which produced hits such as "Ghetto Gospel."

Sayso P's name now joins the annals of rappers who were never given the opportunity to fulfill their full potential. If Sauce Walka completely recovers, he will have to live with the loss, the questions, and the spotlight that continues to shine on him every time tragedy happens.

The shooting concludes a week of rapper-related homicides.  Yella Beezy, a Texas rapper, was indicted on murder-for-hire charges in connection with the 2020 murder of Dallas musician Mo3. The indictment alleges that Yella Beezy orchestrated the murder alongside shooter Kewon White. White shot Mo3 on Interstate 35 near the Dallas Zoo in November 2020. The rapper would die at the scene.

Rest in peace. Saido P.  May your voice resonate louder than ever before.

And Sauce, it's time to travel a different path.
