The Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum will be planned by the Australian prime minister
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Tuesday that he thinks support for having a "Indigenous Voice to Parliament" will grow after he sets a date for Australia's first referendum in a generation.
Albanese will set a date for a referendum on putting an Indigenous Voice to Parliament into the constitution on Wednesday. This group of advocates wants to give the most disadvantaged ethnic community in the country a bigger say in how the government runs.
Australia's first vote since 1999 is most likely to happen on October 14, according to rumors in the media.
Indigenous Australians, who make up 3.8% of Australia's population and are the country's most disadvantaged ethnic group, will benefit from the Voice, according to its supporters.
Opponents say that changing the law is either too radical or not radical enough.
If the referendum passes, it will be Australia's first since 1977 and the first to pass without backing from both political parties.
