Last year, MacKenzie Scott gave $2.15 billion to hundreds of charitable organizations

Thursday, Scott posted on her website, Yield Giving, that $2.15 billion had been donated over the past year. Within the post, she explained that the charity gave money to 360 groups, and that "everyone could use more allies."

The reasons were many and varied. She gave the Asian American Journalists Association an unknown amount of money and the Howard University College of Medicine $12 million. Helping groups in India's rural areas, services that send abortion pills, and a number of legal aid services all got donations.

Charity donations are recorded in a database kept by Yield Giving. Numerous of the amounts revealed were in the millions of dollars, and some were $10 million, like Canopy Planet (environmental justice), Start Early (child development), and Malaria Consortium. Some gifts were worth $20 million.

Five years later, in 2022, Scott said that her group had given more than $3.8 billion to 465 groups. To date, she has given $436 million to Habitat for Humanity and $84.5 million to Girl Scouts of the USA, which is the largest single grant the organization has ever received.

In the early 2000s, Scott helped her husband Jeff Bezos build the tech giant Amazon. Their split happened in 2019. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, she is worth $33.7 billion right now.
