Due to fire and laceration hazards, nearly 5M BlendJet blenders were recalled
Federal regulators announced Thursday that BlendJet is recalling 4.8 million portable blenders due to laceration and fire hazards after dozens of injuries.
Portable BlendJet 2 The US Consumer Product Safety Commission warns that blender blades can break off and overheat or catch fire.
The CPSC reported 329 blade breaks and 17 overheating or fire reports that cost $150,000 in property damage. One laceration and 49 minor burn injuries have been reported to the company.
Officials advised consumers to stop using the recalled blenders and contact BlendJet for a free base unit replacement. Customers must remove and cut the base's rubber seal and email or upload a photo to BlendJet to receive the replacement part.
BlendJet stated in a prepared statement that the recall applies to older Blender 2 blenders and that newer blenders sold on the company's website and retail partners have updated components and are not affected.
The Benicia, California, company recalled BlendJet 2 blenders with serial numbers between "5201" and "5542". No recall applies to "5543" or higher numbers. Consumers can check if their blender is recalled by entering product information on BlendJet's website or contacting the company.
